In August 2005, the North Carolina State Lottery Act (H. 1023) and the 2005 Appropriations Act (§ 622) was signed into law, which established the North Carolina Education Lottery.
~The act created the 9-member North Carolina Lottery Commission to initiate, supervise, and administer the education lottery.
All the proceeds go towards education related needs in NC.
~The NC Education Lottery has been in effect since 2006. Starting out it was very small but overtime it has become one of the most talked things on the news. The purpose of the lottery is to raise funds for NC education as well as reward lucky winners. Tickets range from $0.50-$100+. Many stores sell them. Over the past decade millions and millions have been sold and some people have become winners. The rush people get from hearing a large amount of money drives them to spend excessive amounts on lottery tickets. In 2013 the lottery transferred $153.8 million for education across the state (NCeducationlottery.org).
